Suicide, although a very serious problem occurring in the world today, is not one that is addressed often. In fact, it is usually ignored completely if possible. The problem of suicideis taking place all over the world in every day life and is not something that can always be ignored, especially when it comes to reality shows.
Recently, a husband on the show The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills committed suicide. Not being a fan or a viewer of the show I am unable to say whether or not it was something that anyone had seen coming. I would assume not, considering suicide usually takes many by surprise; either way, this was not a fact that could be ignored by loved ones or by the media. Information had to be sent out and in a timely fashion. With that being said, I am happy to see that Bravo (the network the show airs on) is taking the situation into it’s own hands. Editing will be done to the show, a special show will also be aired discussing suicide, and the network will have PSA’s being played during commercial breaks.
Although it is a sad fact to have to face, it is one that many deal with on a daily basis. I am happy to see suicide and depression finally being talked about, even if it is due to a tragic event such as this one.
